Bijapur or Vijapur means the city of victory. It was the capital of the Adilshahi empire. This city is famous for mosques, mausoleums, palaces and fortifications. Following are main visited places:

1. Gol Gumbaz – It is second-largest tomb in the world. Dome has a whispering gallery under it, whose acoustics are superb.

2. Ibrahim Roza – It is the mausoleum of Ibrahim Adil Shah II, is said to have inspired the Taj Mahal in Agra. So you will find similarities between two.

3. Jama Masjid – It is one of the first mosques in India. It holds copy of the Quran, written in gold.

4. Taj Bawdi - A water tank used for bath/swimming by Taj Sultana, Ibrahim Adil Shah II’s wife.

5. Malik-e-Maidan – This is huge cannon, 14 feet long and weighing about 55 tons.

6. Upri/Hyder Buruj - It is 80 ft high tower offers a commanding view of the city.
