Aurangabad is one of largest city of central Maharashta, situated on the western coast of India. Named after Aurangzeb, who established a capital here in 1633, Aurangabad was previously known as Khadke. Aurangabad has a number of attractions, some of them visited by us given below -
Daultabad Fort –
Originally named as Deogiri fort. Later Delhi Sultanate, Tughlaq captured it and renamed. Daulatabad is famous for it’s series of trick defences, secret escape routes, etc. Important monuments within the fort include the Jami Masjid – now the Bharat Mata Mandir, the Chand Minar, Elephant Tank and Chini Mahal or Chinese Palace.
Ellora Caves -
Ajanta and Ellora are the prime attraction for people visiting Aurangabad. Ellora Caves are over 2000 years old, were constructed between the 5th and 8th centuries A.D. Caves consist of temples and monasteries hewn from rock by Buddhist, Hindu and Jain monks and craftsmen. They tell the story of the evolution of these Religions.
Ajanta Caves –
Ajanta area consist of 24 Monastaries and 5 temples, again carved out from solid rock. The wall paintings and frescoes of these caves have a beautiful flow of line and a wealth of colour. Professional artists helped Buddhist monks to create magnificent murals narrating the story of Buddha in his cycle of incarnations, while simultaneously creating a painted record of the panorama of life in ancient India. People prefers to visit caves # 1, 2, 9, 10, 16, 17 and 26.
